Chamber to host ‘Education After Hours’

Education After Hours The Greater Hardeeville Chamber of Commerce and the Jasper County School District will host ‘Education After Hours’ at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2 at the Hardeeville Schools Complex. Guest speakers will include Dr. Garry Walters and Dr. Karen Woodfaulk from the S.C. Commission on Higher Education will deliver a presentation on “Access and Equity in Higher Education.” Parents with students interested in attending college are encouraged to attend the meeting. Walters is the executive director of the SC Commission on Higher Education. Prior to coming to South Carolina, he was acting chancellor and vice chancellor for academic affairs with the Ohio Board of Regents. Walters, a Fulbright Scholar and expert on Russia and Eastern Europe, is author of “The Other Europe and The Essential Guide to Computing.” Karen Woodfaulk is director of student services for the S.C. Commission on Higher Education. The student services division is responsible for coordinating student services activities including: the Palmetto Fellows Scholarship, the S.C. Need-Based Grant Program, LIFE Scholarship, HOPE Scholarship, Lottery Tuition Assistance programs, Veteran Education benefits, the Higher Education Awareness Program (HEAP), and Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP). Woodfaulk is a member of the executive board of the South Carolina Women in Higher Education. President of the Greater Hardeeville Chamber of Commerce Paul Bathe, Interim Superintendent John Taylor, Hardeeville Mayor Bronco Bostick, Ridgeland Mayor Gary Hodges are also expected to attend.
