John Meeks passed away this weekend

Flags at City Hall were flown at half-staff in honor of this well-known Hardeeville resident. A funeral service is scheduled tomorrow (Tuesday) at Abundant Life Church. John Meeks John Monroe Meeks Sr., 69, of Hardeeville, died Saturday, June 27, 2009, at his home. He was born in Forsyth, Ga., on July 20, 1939. He was the son of Guy Watson and Mandy Elizabeth Hudson Meeks. He was the retired president of Lobeco Products Chemical Company, Inc. for 30 years. He was a member of the Orchard Hill Baptist Church in Orchard Hill, Ga. He attended the Hardeeville Baptist Church. He loved his family and he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Harper Meeks of Hardeeville; one son, John M. “Rocky” Meeks Jr. (Cheryl); five daughters, Brenda (John) Sanchez, Kim (Roy) Powell and Bonnie (Joshua) Reyna all of Hardeeville, Connie (Stan) Turlington of Davenport, Fla., and Kathy (Joe) Brichacek of Rincon, Ga.; one daughter-in-law, Carol Meeks Knight of Springfield, Ga; one brother, Ted H. (Brenda) Meeks of Milner, Ga; two sisters, Patricia (Henry) Phillips and Nancy (Len) Bythewood all of Griffin, Ga; grandchildren, Mandy and Brittany Sanchez, Amber and Natalie Powell, Alexander and Andrew Reyna, Cody and Jordan Schumacher all of Hardeeville; Joy Powell (Michael) Esemann of Jacksonville, N.C., Johnny Taylor and Ryan Meeks of Springfield, Ga, Brooke and Trey Turlington of Davenport, Fla., Chastity (Tony) Lawson, Brianna and Brandon Lawson all of Rincon, Ga.; three great-grandchildren, Hunter Sanchez of Hardeeville, Brandi(Grayson) Huskins of Statesboro, Ga., and Lindsey Brichacek of Rincon, Ga. He was predeceased by one brother, Guy “Sonny” Meeks and one sister, Mary Prescott. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2009, in the Abundant Life Church, Hardeeville, with burial in the Maye River Cemetery, Bluffton. Memorial donations can be to the Maye River Building Fund, P.O. Box 814, Bluffton, S.C., 29910, or the Abundant Life Academy Sports Program, P.O. Box 310, Hardeeville, S.C, 29927. Sauls Funeral Home of Ridgeland is in charge of arrangements.
