Vox misses you

“I wonder if your editor might know this. At the Hardeeville Wal-Mart, there’s a Publix going in there then there is a huge box store being built to the right of Publix at that same center. What is going in there? We figure you guys would know.”

Editor’s note: According to Jasper County director of planning and zoning David M. Jirousek, three additional retail structures are designated for the adjacent site. The new Publix grocery store will measure 45,600 square feet. A second building under construction, known as Retail B, will total 29,305 square feet.

“At this time, 8,554 square feet are proposed to be a Dollar Tree,” Jirousek said. “We have only granted one upfit permit for the building.”

An upfit permit is approval to remodel and build inside the space according to the desires of the potential lessee or buyer, he explained. It’s a modification to specifically suit a business’ needs.

A second building, labeled as Retail A, will measure 15,055 square feet. Building permits have not yet been submitted, although the structure has been considered in the developer’s site plans.
