SUMTER – Two of three men wanted in connection to the shooting death of a former Hardeeville teacher have been arrested.

Markeith Ford was shot and killed May 19 during a robbery and burglary in Sumter.

Ford, 31, taught at Hardeeville High School where he was a math teacher and assistant basketball coach. He was fired in October 2008 after he was accused of assaulting another teacher and charged with disturbing schools and simple assault.

Ford was shot in the head while watching TV at his sister’s house. Two armed men forced their way into the house and demanded money.

Tony Lowery, 30, and Frederick Oneal Owens, 27, both of Sumter, have been charged in Ford’s murder, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. As of Tuesday, June 9, a third man believed to be the shooter in the case, Maurice Lionel Abrams, was still being sought by authorities.
