Holiday lights shine for charity

RIDGELAND – Chelsea Brendlen’s yard just outside of Ridgeland will be brightly lit with 80,000 holiday lights each night until the end of the year.

While it’s free to drive through the spectacle, she hopes you’ll make a donation, drop off a gift card or cut a check to “Christmas Wish.”

All of the money will be donated to Backus Children’s Hospital, which supports local families coping with cancer, Brendlen said.

“Our community’s support is greatly appreciated and last year we were able to donate over $2,000,” she said. “Come by and see our Christmas light display and if you are able to, please make a monetary donation.”

The light show is 6 to 9 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays and until 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. The show will be extended until 11 p.m. the week of Christmas.

Expect to see 80 yard displays to include Santa playing basketball, gingerbread children, Santa’s workshop, ice skaters and a Nativity scene.

Visit the light show at 1570 Driggers Lane, Ridgeland. From Hardeeville take Interstate 95 north to Exit 21. Turn right off the exit. Make a left onto Bees Creek Road. Go through the Rice Shire Road intersection. Drive about 1 mile. Driggers Lane will be on the left.
