Sanford steps down as school district's superintendent
Submitted by erinnmcguire on Tue, 06/30/2009 - 8:52am.
This was released this morning from the Jasper County School District: In its meeting Monday evening, the Jasper County Board of Education and Delacy W. Sanford mutually agreed that effective July 6, Dr. Sanford will provide professional consulting services to the Jasper County School Board and Jasper County School District personnel as may be requested for a dollar amount not to exceed Dr. Sanford's current contractual salary of $130,000. As stated, these arrangements were mutually agreed-upon by the parties as being in the best interest of the Jasper District. Sanford has expressed a desire to spend more time with his family in Georgia and not continue as superintendent beyond the term of his present contract. The Jasper County Board of Education and Sanford have amiably agreed upon these arrangements, which they believe are in their mutual best interests and the best interests of the Jasper community. The Jasper Board formally expresses its appreciation to Sanford for his past services to the District. It looks forward to working with him in his new role and wishes him well in future work. The Board Chair will announce the District's transition plans on Monday, July 6. A special meeting of the Jasper County Board of Education will be scheduled in July. Not surprised..........
That Sanford is out, but the timing is weird, to me at least. Now we're going to have one school year ran by the school board, who of course "always" have the best interest of its schools and students, and never their personal gain..........
Old Fish
Something smells here and no one seem to have the backbone to tell the citizens of Jasper County and the State of South Carolina 1. Why Sanford was fired and 2. Why we are paying him $130,000 to go away. Next thing that will happen is that the School Board/County will want a tax increase to pay for a new Superintendent. Did we hire an idiot in the mane of affirmative action? Did we hire a pedophile, a philanderer, a thief, a felon?
If all is on the up and up why did Sanford seek the council of the Attorney Generals office. Why was he advised to resign by the Attorney General? What about the people he brought with him? Are they staying or going with him? If so how much are we paying them to do nothing. The School Board needs to provide some answers! It would seem that Jasper County is being blackmailed. Put the facts on the table and save the citizens of South Carolina this money. We are experiencing over 10% unemployment and don't have money to waste on frivolous irresponsible decisions.
