This just released by the city of Hardeeville: The S.C. State Law Enforcemnt Division (SLED) has completed a review of the forensic audit documents furnished by the Hardeeville City Council on Oct. 28. SLED has notified the City Council that a criminal investigation has been officially opened. The investigation will be conducted by SLED and two SLED agents have been assigned to the case. Hardeeville’s economic development director has accepted a job with Congressman Joe Wilson’s office. Ted Felder, who has been with the city of Hardeeville just shy of two years, will return to Wilson’s Lowcountry district office, headquartered in Beaufort. Felder worked for Wilson from 2001 until January 2007 as a special assistant. His new job as Lowcountry district director will begin Dec. 1. Pet photos with Santa

The Jasper County Chamber of Commerce has launched its Web site for the South Carolina-Georgia joint deepwater marine terminal on the Savannah River, just south of Hardeeville. The Web site is www.jasperportnow.com The primary purpose for the new Web site is to make sure that citizens have access to all up-to-date information regarding the multi-million-dollar Jasper Ocean Terminal, said Martin Sauls IV, president of the Jasper County Chamber of Commerce. HARDEEVILLE – A semi truck driver from Florida died Monday in Jasper County after overturning on S.C. 170 in the Savannah Wildlife Refuge. Liz Levan, 38, was headed eastbound on S.C. 170 around 2:40 p.m. when he his 1996 Freightliner ran off the right side of the roadway in a curve, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol. When he tried to swerve back onto the road, the 18-wheeler flipped over. The man died at the scene. The truck was hauling hardwood flooring. No other vehicles were involved. City and County join services to provide combined property tax bills

This year Hardeeville citizens will see a new combined property tax bill. Instead of receiving two separate property tax bills for county tax and city tax they will be receiving one bill with both amounts combined. The new tax bills will indicate separately the portion of tax that is to be collected for the City and for the County. Conveniently though, with the combined property tax bill citizens will only have to make one payment to the county treasurer. Voter information and tips
